How much is the compensation?

Operators of collective facilities are entitled to a financial incentive of 600 euros per tonne of mattresses collected. For practical reasons, this amount is calculated on the basis of weight, i.e. approximately 9 euros per mattress. Before collection, mattresses must be stored in a dry place and without any risk of contamination.

Valumat adjusts this flat rate each year in line with changes in market conditions for the collection, transport and disposal of used mattresses.

How to make an application

No action is required on your part. The approved reuse centre or Valumat collector will forward your details directly to Valumat. In April of the year following the collection of your used mattresses, you will receive an email containing a unique code. Using this code, you can log on to our website and follow the specified steps. Once all the steps have been completed, Valumat will proceed with payment of the compensation.

When does Valumat pay compensation?

It is simple: all compensation is paid in the year following the year of collection. Thus, compensation for mattresses collected in 2025 will be paid in 2026.

And how does this work in accounting terms?

Compensation paid by Valumat is considered a subsidy and is therefore exempt from VAT. An invoice is not required, and a credit note will not be issued by Valumat. Your accountant can record the compensation in a 74 account, entitled «Other operating income».
