How do I join Valumat?

Joining Valumat is simple. To become a member, you must be subject to the obligations of extended producer responsibility. Download the following documents to join Valumat:

Sign the contract and complete the identification form. Then email two copies of the completed documents to info@valumat.be. Upon receipt, Valumat will return a signed copy of the contract to you.

Why join Valumat?

By joining Valumat, you are immediately in compliance with all the legal obligations relating to extended producer responsibility, thus avoiding administrative constraints and wasted time. Valumat takes care of all practical aspects associated with the used mattress collection obligation, in all three regions of the country.

Can I join Valumat retroactively?

You can join Valumat at any time, but there are a few points to bear in mind. Extended producer responsibility has been in force since 2021. As a producer or importer, you must therefore be able to demonstrate your compliance with the corresponding obligations. If you cannot prove that you have been in compliance since 2021 by means of an individual plan, Valumat will invoice you for the membership fees due since 1 January 2021.

This measure is designed to ensure fairness among all companies and to avoid disadvantaging those which have complied from the outset. By joining Valumat retroactively, you regularise your situation for the periods when you were not in compliance and thus avoid receiving any fines.

Producers and importers who do not comply with their obligations regarding extended producer responsibility are known as «free riders»

Although it is not Valumat’s job to punish these players, we do monitor the Belgian market to identify and encourage them to join the system. Our primary objective is to ensure optimal recycling and reuse of used mattresses. If, despite our efforts, certain producers or importers persist in failing to comply with the regulations, we pass on their details to the authorities.

The authorities can then carry out targeted checks and require them to join Valumat or draw up an individual plan. In the event of persistent non-compliance, an official report may be drawn up.

Annual declaration

The annual declaration enables producers and importers to inform Valumat of the number of mattresses put on the Belgian market. This declaration is made via our secure online application. The deadline is 31 March of the current year and refers to the volume of mattresses put on the market during the previous calendar year. This declaration is compulsory and must be renewed each year before 31 March following the reference year.
